Trust Your Eyes

This book is absolutely one of my favorites that I’ve read in 2012!

Trust Your Eyes by Linwood Barclay was the 10th book in my 12 book challenge for myself in 2012. I’m almost at my goal: yay!!!

I am personally a big fan of thriller style books. I love a good mystery, especially when it is fast-paced and contains a number of twists and turns. Trying to figure out who the bad guy is/what the mystery behind a conspiracy is always makes my mind race wildly! Trust Your Eyes definitely includes all of those things: thank you, Linwood Barclay!!!

I don’t want to give away any of the important details that will spoil the plot (that would be mean of me), but I will give you a brief non-spoiler preview. The story follows Ray Kilbride and his brother Thomas, after their father dies in an accident. Thomas happens to be a schizophrenic who is obsessed with maps; specifically the program Whirl 360 (which is reminiscent of Google Earth…allowing you to zoom in and see street views of any place in the world). Thomas spends almost all of his day “traveling” the streets of the world, memorizing details, addresses, and the like. One day, he happens to see something on a street view of New York City – a disturbing image that he believes to be something sinister. As he enlists his brother Ray’s help to investigate further, it quickly becomes clear that the two brothers have happened upon a conspiracy…and they end up tied up in the middle of it.

There are so many unexpected turns and thrills in the plot of this book! It is definitely one of those that you can sit down and read all at once; it was a page turner and I didn’t want to put it down for a second. I devoured it in record time, and was still surprised by Linwood Barclay’s writing right down to the last page. After reading Trust Your Eyes, I want to go read all of Linwood Barclay’s previous books – I think I’ve discovered a new author I love! If you enjoy books like The DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons (basically any Dan Brown book), you’ll probably enjoy reading Trust Your Eyes!
