Dear Baby –
It’s hard to believe another month has flown by! October was a month that pretty much passed in the blink of an eye. I think that had to do with the fact that your father and I had a vacation planned! The first two weeks of the month were spent preparing for it, and then the third was for us to enjoy it! Then, the month was practically complete!
Fun fact: we are kind of bad about taking vacations. When we first got married, your father had just started a new job and was unable to take time off for us to go on a honeymoon directly afterwards. I wasn’t terribly upset about it, because we were able to do some research and find a great deal on a place we truly loved. It just took us a year and a half to get there finally! Whoops.
Anyway, fast forward a few years to 2016. Actually, that’s quite a few years later (five…but who is counting???). We went on a vacation for the first time since our honeymoon and it was awesome! So awesome in fact that we decided to book our trip for this year to the resort directly next door to the one we stayed at in 2016. Victims of habit? Perhaps. But – we knew we wanted a trip to the beach and we had loved our 2016 trip so much that we wanted to make sure we had a similar experience. In addition, we could not vacation too far from home just in case a match were to happen! Mexico was far enough away to be a vacation, but close enough that we could return home at a moment’s notice if we had to. Plus, you mother really doesn’t like flying all that much, so a direct flight from Orlando to Mexico was a huge plus for the travel planning.
My parents were kind enough to gift us some of their travel miles to book a pre-baby (pre-you?) vacation. We ended up at Excellence Playa Mujeres for a few nights. We were definitely in need of a getaway, so the time we got to spend together without having to worry about work or anything else was fantastic. We sat by the pool pretty much the entire day, alternating between laying under the thatched umbrellas and floating on mats in the water. We ate a lot of food, had fresh coconuts turned into monkeys (the cutest thing ever), and I was able to do a lot of reading! It definitely helped me take my mind off of the fact that we were having a relatively slow month in the land of adoption prospects. In the month of October we said no to 3 different situations, and we said yes only once to have our profile book shown.
I hope that even though your father and I started our first few years of marriage putting off vacations that we make it a habit in the future. It is definitely something we want to do on a yearly basis. Hopefully we will be taking you along with us sometimes as well. At this point I have been joking that I truly hope we don’t get to take another vacation before you arrive. But, baby, if you aren’t here at this time next year I think we’ll just have to make a return trip to keep our minds off of that. Anyway, I’m pretty excited to build some memories with you in the future. Who knows what we will have in store…
Until next time,
Love,
Mom
