My Style

Stripes: from daytime practical to evening appropriate

To say my wardrobe has shifted since I started my new job would be an understatement. A few years ago, I was working in an office environment. My closet was filled with pencil skirts, pumps, and other office appropriate attire. I retired many of these items when I transitioned to working from home. Annnnd my wardrobe items of choice became yoga pants and tee shirts for the daytime, unless I was running errands or going to a meeting.

Now, I’m attempting to create as many “teacher” outfits as possible from my existing closet. Some of my previous office outfits fit the bill, thankfully. Other items are being reworked into new creations. It’s been a challenge, but in a good way.

When I’m shopping nowadays, I will be keeping my eyes peeled for items that have an opportunity to be worn in the classroom AND in social settings after work. This striped dress is a great example. For the daytime, I pair this comfortable dress with a set of practical flats….

But with a few quick changes, I’m ready to head out to dinner or another occasion. All it takes is the addition of a statement necklace and a change of shoes and bag.

I have to say: the ability to make just a few switches instead of an entire wardrobe change is a great thing in my book. It’s easy enough to throw my necklace into my clutch, and pop an extra pair of shoes into my car in anticipation of the switch after work…instead of putting together a second outfit altogether. Hopefully, I will be able to find more pieces that transition so well as I continue working through my closet!

Do you have wardrobe pieces that transition well from day to night?
