Capella Ixtapa: Daytime Eats

Warning: this post is picture heavy. Also: if you’re hungry right now, this post is not going to help matters.

I don’t think any of you would be surprised to find out that the food offered at Capella Ixtapa was an important consideration when it came to booking our trip. Let me tell you: it did not disappoint whatsoever! Justin and I were able to indulge throughout the day without breaking the bank…and we were able to try a few new things along the way! I’ll let the food speak for itself for the most part…

Breakfast

Our package included breakfast every morning, which we definitely took advantage of. I know – you’re probably shocked to hear this, but I did not bring my oatmeal along with me on this trip. I decided that since we were on vacation, I’d splurge on some breakfast deliciousness. Throughout our stay, I think we tried almost every single item on the menu. It’s hard to pick a favorite…everything was amazing!

Every breakfast started off with a large glass of fresh squeezed orange juice:

We would then sit back and make our order(s) at our leisure…while enjoying the view…

We almost always ordered a pastry basket or a fruit plate:

Pain de muerto for Dia des los Muertos:

Fried eggs and bacon (plus you have to love the garnish of potatoes, cherry tomatoes, and asparagus…yum!):

Keeping it simple with a veggie (and goat cheese) filled omelette:

Or…an egg white omelette:

Scrambled eggs with beef and ranchero sauce:

French toast with coconut, sauteed apples, and powdered sugar:

Enchiladas for breakfast? Yep. We did that. More than once.

Oh, the pancakes. They were absolutely some of the fluffiest, cake-y pancakes ever. They were sprinkled with powdered sugar and cinnamon, and served with a side of fresh whipped cream (almond flavored…seriously…):

Mid-Day

Most days, Justin and I opted for a late breakfast, so we typically weren’t hungry for a big lunch. However, we usually ended up ordering an entree to share via room service, or we traversed down to the tapas-style restaurant for a snack. The room service at Capella Ixtapa was phenomenal; we were always surprised at how quickly our orders would arrive at our room, and how they were always piping hot (or ice cold, depending on what we ordered)!

A sizzling hot plate of chicken fajitas with guacamole and pico de gallo:

After a hot afternoon of sitting by our infinity pool, a caprese salad was oh so very fresh and perfect:

We tried some fried hibiscus flowers one afternoon. They were chewy, if you were wondering.

Cucumber margarita (oh so refreshing!):

Mini rolls stuffed with pork and pickled onions:

When our horseback riding excursion was cancelled at the last minute, the staff sent us a beautiful plate of handmade chocolates as an apology! Once again, Capella Ixtapa proved that their customer service is spectacular. And how did they know that the way to my heart was through chocolate? I almost didn’t want to eat them; the presentation was absolutely exquisite (but the chocolates tasted even better…):

Oh, and of course, we can’t forget the fresh chips, guacamole, and margaritas/wine that were delivered at 5pm every day:

After that…it was time for dinner! However, I’m going to save those details for next time. That’s enough drooling for now…

Do you like to splurge on certain types of food when you’re on vacation? What is your favorite thing to order?
