Heels or flats? Why not BOTH (with the same skirt)!?!?!?

Ah summer: the season of maxi dresses, skirts, gladiator sandals, and strappy heels. If I’m not sporting my barre clothes, you can know with 100% certainty that I’ll be rocking a maxi dress or skirt. They’re fun, they somehow manage to keep me cool in these hot temperatures, and I have the ability to dress them up or down depending on the occasion. What’s not to love?

Scotch™ Essentials Adjustable Hem Tape

There is only one dilemma that I find myself running into with my maxi dresses and skirts. As a person on the shorter side of the spectrum, I typically find that the length of my maxis requires me to wear heels.

Scotch™ Essentials Adjustable Hem Tape

That’s great for a date night out with my husband, but there are also times when I would much rather rock my favorite pair of gladiator sandals. Therein lies the predicament. Do I get some of my dresses and skirts hemmed? If I do, that means I can ONLY wear flats with that piece now. I can’t say that I’m always ready to make that commitment.

Scotch™ Essentials Adjustable Hem Tape

Oh, but wait. It turns out I don’t have to make that kind of commitment with Scotch™ Essentials Adjustable Hem Tape. If you don’t already have this product in your life, you really need to introduce it, STAT! This tape allows you to CHANGE the hemline of your skirts, pants, dresses, and more! It’s easy to do in just a few simple steps:

Scotch™ Essentials Adjustable Hem Tape

First, turn the item inside out. Measure and fold where you would like the new hem into your fabric. You can use an iron to form a crease as well.

After you’ve measured and folded your new hemline, you remove the tape strip from the backing, position it inside the new hem, and rub it into place. You then peel the top part of the backing to expose the adhesive.

Last, you fold the fabric over the tape and rub firmly again. That’s it. You’re done and ready to don a skirt with flats rather than heels. Easy peasy! All you have to do is remember to remove the tape after you wear the item before placing it in the wash (or dry cleaning or ironing).

So, how amazing is that?!?! I am perusing my closet for all sorts of new wardrobe options, now that I can pair so many different shoes with some of my outfits thanks to the Scotch Essentials Adjustable Hem Tape.

Now, there are some items that I know I am ready to commit a more permanent solution to, and thankfully Scotch™ Essentials Permanent Hem Bonding Strips are the answer for those! These strips apply just like the adjustable tape, but they form a permanent bond that will hold securely through cold water wash and low temperature dry cycles. It just so happens that I have a pile of my barre leggings that have begun to fray a bit on the bottom (wearing my pants hooked around my heels during class does that over time): the rest of the pants look pristine though! I have an appointment with that stack: I’ll be taking up the bottom hem by a few inches so I can cut off the frayed bits. It’s going to be like I have an entirely new stack of pants, and I don’t even have to take them to the tailor – score!!!

In addition to fixing my pants, I am already thinking of options to utilize the Scotch Essentials Permanent Hem Bonding Strips for household projects. I’m thinking about no-sew pillows, homemade napkins, and more! I have always wanted to take on some simple projects like these, but because I don’t have a sewing machine (nor do I know how to use one), I was thwarted! I love that I can use these strips for some DIY projects!

It’s a good thing that you can easily pick up some of these hem tape/bonding strips – they are easily located at Target stores in the closet section (by the sewing machines and sewing kits). You can also find an array of other Scotch products that will help with your wardrobe, like the Scotch™ Essentials Wardrobe Tape Strips (keep that neckline in place with those breezy summer tops!!! Plus, they come in an easy to carry container so you can pop them in your handbag), and the Scotch-Brite™ Lint Roller (when you have two dogs at home like me, this is ESSENTIAL). You can SAVE $1.00 on any Scotch™ Essentials product at Target from now through 9/26/16.
