Reverb 10: Moment

December 3 – Moment. Pick one moment during which you felt most alive this year. Describe it in vivid detail (texture, smells, voices, noises, colors). (Author: Ali Edwards)

For those of you who have been reading my blog for a while, I am sure you can guess which date my moment will come from.

Is there really any way for me to NOT select a moment from my wedding day as one in which I felt most alive? I think not. Now, I realize that in describing this moment, I am about to spoil/leak a few photos from my recaps which I have yet to share with you…so I apologize in advance…and please continue reading my recaps! Ok, disclaimer complete. Here we go…

May 30, 2010

The lights were low but glowing. Dinner plates were being cleared from tables, but the tantalizing scent of stir fry, Chilean sea bass, grilled lamb chops, and other delightful noshes were still wafting through the air. It was time to work off those calories.

The hardwood dance floor was filled with jubilant wedding guests. Some stood on the side lines to witness the event, but most could be found with their dancing shoes on. Our DJ had the music turned up full blast.

My uncle had made a music request. He wanted the DJ to play some classic rock, a la AC/DC. At first, I didn’t recognize the song, but I knew that the beat was good, and it didn’t take long for a crowd to form around my gyrating family members…

My uncles, brother, and cousins joined in the dance party. As it turned out, the song playing was “Highway to Hell.” I die. Could there have been a more inappropriate song to be playing at a wedding? Perhaps, but this one was still relatively questionable. However, none of our guests seemed to notice or care because we were all soaking up the entertainment of everyone’s dance moves.

My new husband and I were literally surrounded on all sides by our family, our friends, our loved ones…and everyone was celebrating our joyous day alongside us. There was no stress, there was no anger, there was no fighting…there was nothing wrong in the world whatsoever.

I was sweaty. My dress was feeling a bit tight after eating dinner. My feet were starting to ache from wearing my high heels all day. But I didn’t care. I felt like I could fly…I was so deliriously happy at that moment in time. And I kind of did…with some assistance from my new husband. The day had been a whirlwind, and it was passing by in the blink of an eye. But, at that moment I felt so incredibly alive.

  • sigh…. I specifically didn’t use my wedding as my ‘moment’ for 2010 and now I think there are some hurt feelings around here. 🙁

    Nicely written and great photos!

  • Great post! Makes me relive my wedding all over again. It feels so great after the ceremony and just dancing with your loved ones. Like you said, not a care in the world. 🙂

  • Your post made me smile and remember all of the similar moments from our wedding day. No stress, no worries… just us surrounded by the ones we love, celebrating the beginning of our journey together. Bliss.

  • You are so freaking cute! I’m so glad I read this post. I would’ve written about a moment from our wedding too – It’s actually the moment my favorite pictures were taken. Love your wedding pictures!
