My Style

Draped dress

Do you rotate the items in your closet depending on the season? I’ve been going through my wardrobe and retiring my spring/summer clothes to the spare bedroom for a few months (I know this sounds like a ridiculous thing to say mid-November, but hey: I live in Florida. Fall/winter clothes start now and end some time in February). As I began my rotation, I came across this draped/cape-like dress in the back of the rack. It’s funny how some items can sit or hang, unused, for a period of time and are then rediscovered. I immediately snatched the hanger holding this dress out of the closet and marched it into my room. Date night dress? Check.

I remember buying this dress: it was my first purchase at ZARA when the store opened in Tampa (which was probably a few years ago at this point). I loved how it was a classic black dress, but with a bit of a twist. I was drawn to how the fabric draped from the shoulders and into the center. It’s fun yet covered up…a good combo in my opinion! The perfect option for a dinner date night with the husband.

Speaking of a dinner date, the other night happened to be one of those situations where I just had the urge to do my hair and put on a “full” makeup. It’s a funny thing: my makeup routine has become whittled down to the essentials in the past few years. It is now a very rare occasion when I use eyeliner, eyeshadow, and lip color. Sometimes I wonder if it’s because I’m lazy, but sometimes I think it is just that I’ve grown comfortable in my own skin as time passed. Maybe I’m just making excuses…
