Do we see a difference?

It has been just a little over 2 months since I checked in to announce that Justin and I were re-joining a gym in the hopes of toning up a bit before our belated honeymoon. Whoa, time really does fly.

As a refresher, this was the state of my arms when we first started (I thought my shoulders had softened/rounded a bit since our wedding a year ago, when my arms were at the most toned they’d ever been):

Today? We’ve been hitting the gym 3-4 times a week. We typically do a combination of weights and cardio. One day is devoted to back/shoulders, the next is chest, another is legs. Cardio comes after about 30 minutes of weights; we’ll spend 20 minutes on the elliptical or the rowing machine, and as of last week we started swimming laps in the gym’s pool again (I forgot how awesome it feels to go swimming, and what a full body workout it can be).

Annnnd am I really about to flex for a photo? Only because I love you guys. Gulp. Check out my guns…cough cough:

Do I think there is a major difference? Maybe not at first glance, but I really haven’t been going for a drastic change anyway. However, I can feel that my arms are stronger and where there used to be just a limp noodle, there is now a bit of muscle and definition. Feeling stronger is a great thing indeed. Also, I’ve gained about 5 pounds…kind of crazy, right? I’m hoping that we can keep up our gym routine over time; perhaps I’ll attain even more definition as I continue to work on certain areas!

So what do you think? Do you see a little bit of difference? Do you exercise regularly? What is your routine?

  • looking fit and strong, katie!! i gained lbs when i first started gaining lean muscle too but my clothes were looser and i’ve actually gone down a size. it’s so weird how that works.

  • Yes, I def see a difference — great job! (Although I would kill for your “before” arms too.) Sadly, I haven’t been able to exercise for a while due to the separation of my hip bones from the pregnancy. I can’t wait until I’ve given birth and recovered so that Jillian Michaels can start kicking my butt again.

  • It’s hard to tell from your two pictures where your arms are relaxed (lucky that you have such thin arms anyway!), but when you’re flexing I can tell you’ve been working out. 😉 Good job!

  • Definitely a difference! I gained weight when I started working out, too…I guess that’s why they tell you to measure hip/waist/arms and not look at the scale, eh?

  • Setting aside my jealousy of your “before” arms, you totally can tell the difference – congrats! It’s nice when you can see your hard work paying off!
