Toffee Squares for a #Cookielicious Exchange Party
These toffee square cookie bars are a childhood favorite - they are easy to make and absolutely delicious!
  • 1½ cups butter, room temperature
  • 1½ cups brown sugar, packed
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 bag (12 ounces) dark chocolate chips or other dark chocolate, chopped into small pieces
  • chopped walnuts (optional)
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. With a mixer, cream butter and brown sugar over medium speed. Slowly add egg and vanilla.
  3. Gradually add flour to mix on medium-low speed. Batter should be thick/stiff.
  4. Spread batter evenly in 9x13 inch pan.
  5. Bake for 20 minutes, or until a light golden brown.
  6. Remove bars from oven and sprinkle the bag of chocolate chips evenly over the top. Place pan back in the oven for 2 minutes to melt the chocolate.
  7. Remove pan from oven and spread the melted chocolate evenly across the bars. If desired, add chopped walnut pieces. Let cool completely.
  8. Using a sharp knife, cut bars into squares.
