Lip up or lip down?

I stumbled upon an interesting infographic yesterday via Hunch…have you seen it? They performed a survey of over 5,000 Hunch readers and found out the following…

via Hunch Blog

Personally, I store our glasses lip up.

So, how do I stack up against the stats?

  • I *kind of* drink tap water: we use the Brita water pitcher to filter it though (drinking tap water here in Florida is not a good idea)
  • I drink water throughout the day! I always have a glass on me at home, and I bring my refillable water bottle with me to work
  • I do agree: public drinking fountains freak me out

However, I do go against the norm on the hand sanitizer thing. I always have a small bottle in my handbag. You never know when that stuff will come in handy…

So – where do you stack up on this?

  • Hahaha that’s freaky. I store mine lid down and everything is correct about me. Well, except for the public water fountains…GROSS! But, I do prefer soda when I’m thirsty (or eating something hearty and greasy like pizza or pasta lol) and I do not drink nearly enough water throughout the day (I know, so so bad) and I use an obscene amount of hand sanitizer every day haha. I go through about 1 of those little Bath and Body Works ones in week or less.

  • Interesting. When I put the dishes away I put them lip up. My husband does lip down and it drives me crazy I have to flip them over.

I drink filtered tap water, only drink water throughout the day, and don’t generally use water fountains unless I have to. What I don’t get is the hand sanitizer. You would think if you thought public water fountains were gross that would make you a little of a germaphobe and would mean you would most likely use hand sanitizer. Anyways I also always have hand sanitizer with me.

    • I’m totally with you on the hand sanitizer/public drinking fountains thing…you’d think that if you find them gross, you’d be inclined to have hand sanitizer!

  • So interesting! I’m lip up, personally! I hate tap water, though! I do drink water throughout the day, but I often use hand sanitizer. I’m fifty/fifty on water fountains. I think the ones that look gross are gross, but if I’m thirsty and there’s a fountain I have no issues using it.

  • I store mine lip up and stack them. But I don’t get the reasoning. I store them lip up cuz I hate the thought of getting any dust that may have accumulated on my cupboard shelf into my glass… so why would I hate hand sanitizer? because I don’t dust my kitchen cabinet shelves enough? 😉 Wonder how they came up with this reasoning…

  • I guess I’m the minority of the 50%. As I store my glasses lid down.

    No to bottled water
    Yes to soda
    No to hand sanitizer
    No to water fountains

  • I’m lip down, but used to be lip up. A friend of mine told me that with the lip up, you can get dust particles from the cabinet in your glasses so I started putting them lip down. I drink tap water, drink water throughout the day and dont use hand sanitizer. Though I dont think public water fountains are gross. I guess I’m an anomaly…

  • I’m a lip down girl (I worry that dust will get in the lip up)…

I drink water filtered through the fridge filter. I drink water all day long… I think drinking fountains are NASTY! and I use the wipes not the sanitizer (I feel like the wipes actually take the germs off instead of cleaning them and spreading them around my hands)… haha yah, I’m OCD like that 😉

  • Okay wait. I changed my mind. I keep hand sanitizer in my purse in case we need it. But it lasts me like a year for that tiny bath and body works bottle lol.

  • Interesting. I’m a lip up girl normally but my main shelf is alternating. I don’t mind public water fountains and I do drink out of the tap. 🙂

  • Hmm I store ours lip up and while everything else on there is accurate, I don’t really mind drinking from public fountains. Also, I drink filtered tap water that dispenses from the fridge…where does that fall?

  • Waaaaaahhhh…. Ok first of all, I did not know that people who store their cup lip down even exist. Second, they got me wrong… I use a lot of hand sanitizer, and I HATE tap water! I’d love to see a source on this! Just the fact that there was a study on this leaves my mind blown!

    • It wasn’t an actual study! It was a survey of over 5,000 people who use the site Hunch.com…that’s just what they found!

  • I store my cups lip down, but resemble the characteristics of one that stores their cups lip up!

    1) I’m indifferent on bottled water, but am totally okay with tap!

    2) Definitely do NOT prefer soda! I prefer water!

    3) Don’t use hand sanitizer

4)I think public fountains are icky, but if necessary, will use.

  • I’m lip up.

I don’t drink tap water unless I have to. I don’t like the taste. We have the built-in fridge water now, and before that it was a Brita jug.

I think I am part camel. I have never been good at drinking my daily amount of water, or any fluids at that.

I don’t use hand sanitizer too often. I prefer soap and water but will use sanitizer if it’s the only thing available.

    I HATE drinking fountains.

  • LIP DOWN! And that’s totally me. What’s funny is I didn’t even think anyone did lip up! LOL Maybe I’ve just never noticed it? I think I always did it to keep dust or whatever out of my glasses.

  • I store ours lip up and everything it lists is correct. I drink tap water (filtered through our Brita), I pretty much exclusively drink water all day. I’m not a hand sanitizer fan (this is what years of biology class will do to you once they mention “super germs.” Plus, I prefer good ole soap and water), and I think public drinking fountains are disgusting.
