Surprise surprise! I hopped on yet another bandwagon here…the dialect vlog that has been going around!
If you haven’t stumbled across one of these yet, the rules were quite simple: there is a list of words to read, a well as a number of questions to answer…your pronunciation/terms can differ depending on where you happen to be from!
I decided to shake things up a little bit with my vlog though. Justin, being the wonderful and amazing husband that he is, agreed to sit with me to record the vlog! So, you get not only my responses, but his as well! And, because our upbringings are different, we DO end up having different responses! I hope you enjoy…and please try not to focus on the fact that I am depressingly pale. It is terrible!
If you wanted to follow along, here is the list of words/questions:
Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught
- What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
- What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
- What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
- What do you call gym shoes?
- What do you say to address a group of people?
- What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped
- body and extremely long legs?
- What do you call your grandparents?
- What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry
- groceries at the supermarket?
- What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
- What is the thing you change the TV channel with?
So – will you participate as well? Are there any of those questions that you would answer differently than we did?
And – here are a few links to other blog friends who have participated (let me know if you made a vlog and I’ll link you too!):

You two are so adorable!!! I’ve never heard a drinking fountain called a bubbler before. Never ever. And I’m from the Midwest! Crazy.
Also…pop. That’s all!
I am born and raised in MI and have never heard of a bubbler, just drinking fountain. and Pop!
And I think the question that addresses a group of people was asking if you say, “y’all”, every one”, “guys”…
You both are so cute together! Also- I say coupon the way your husband does… and I get made fun of a lot so I’m glad somebody else says it that way too 🙂
You’re husband is so much more fun than mine – mine refused to be in my dialect vlog! Mine says “CarAmel” and “CrayOn” too, and always corrects me. Oh yeah, and I switch between “Coopon” and “Kewpon,” because I’m all non-committal like that.
By the way – I love bubbler! But I call it a water fountain too. Must be a Florida thing!
I agree with the hubby!!!! It’s a water fountain!!!!! I’m dying that you called it a bubbler 🙂
I was WAITING for someone to say CUE-pon!!!!! Glad Justin did!!!!
I’ve never heard of a bubbler! I call it a water fountain. It’s so funny to see what other folks answers are. Loving your vlog, you two are so cute. 😀
I LOVED IT! Especially Lucia licking Justin’s face then yawning in his face, hahahah! I made Josh watch it and now, you know, I’m going to POLITELY REQUEST that he do it too.
I grew up calling it a bubbler but from living all over – I knew that it was a remote Wisconsin thing.
Also, most of Wisco says soda. SODA IT IS!
(Although I’m perfectly fine with coke – I just don’t drink soda so I never refer to it.)
Glad you did this, it was fun.
I’ve never PERSONALLY called it a bubbler, but I did learn recently that there are water fountains in my city in Oregon that are officially referred to as “bubblers”… though they are a little different than your standard fountain: http://www.portlandonline.com/water/index.cfm?c=48918
Just thought I’d share. =)
You guys are so cute! Definitely never heard of a bubbler – learn something new every day 🙂 “Tennies” are way better than sneakers, which is what I usually say!
Awww, I am so glad we chatted on twitter today! Thanks for the great advice re: skin care 🙂
This video is awesome and I think I should totally participate. We say a lot of words different up here in Canada!
xxoo
You’re so cute! I love that Justin did the vlog with you… I don’t think I could get Ross to do that!
Love, love, love it – you guys are so cute!!!! And I love that your doggie’s name is Lucia.. our kitty’s name is Lucia! I did a dialect vlog too… http://www.alyssacurran.com . So fun hearing everyone’s answers!!!
You both are so cute! 🙂 I’m in the process of uploading mine to Vimeo right now, and I wish I would have seen yours first — I totally call a “drinking fountain” a bubbler! 🙂
I love watching everyones and you inspired me to do one of myself!

Fun fact: the most significant thing I learned from this vlog is that you pronounce your dog’s name LOO-sha. This whole time I’ve been reading your blog, I was pronouncing it in my head as Loo-SEE-ah!
Here’s mine! http://ohfortheloveofblog.com/2011/01/12/the-dialect-vlog/ This has been so fun to see them all!
Best husband EVA for participating!!!!
I freakin’ love how Justin did this with you. So cute!!
So I jumped on and had to give it a try! I’m breaking in my new blog as I Mrs. Hermit Crab inches toward retirement 🙂
