The love of dogs

I don’t think it comes as any surprise that being a pet owner (for me) is beneficial. I absolutely cannot imagine my life without my fur babies: life just isn’t the same without the love of dogs in it! I am sure other dog/pet owners feel exactly the way I do. Your pets become an integral part of the family and hold a special place in your heart.

The love of dogs

For those of you who may not know this, pets were actually responsible for Justin and I meeting and getting together in the first place. Yep. Without Lucia and Theo, we would never have met each other and be married now. It’s hard to believe that back in 2008 two furry friends would be the reason I ran into my husband.

The love of dogs

Theo loved going the the beach, and I would take him there every weekend to walk the beach and swim. It was common for people to marvel at my little maltese-yorkie mix pup as he fearlessly paddled out into the ocean in pursuit of his small frisbee. He would fetch and swim until complete exhaustion (and would have probably still tried to keep going anyway). I loved our little Saturday swims together, but little did I know that one week Justin would show up at the beach with a 10 week old Lucia in tow. It was pretty much a done deal from there. Guy with a 10 week old puppy? Heart. Melted.

The love of dogs

To make a long story short, Justin and I fell in love over the mutual love for our pets (as well as other things, of course), so Theo and Lucia will always hold a very special place in my heart for that reason alone. Theo lives with my parents now (as well as with his dachshund brother Stuart), but we live with Lucia and (now) Sherman. So, my parents have two dogs, we have two dogs…and my little brother and his wife have three dogs. Soooo if you do the math you can quickly determine that in our family the dogs outnumber the humans. Crazy, right?!?!

The love of dogs

When you own more than one dog, things can start to get complicated when it comes to food, accessories, etc. For instance, Lucia happens to have a tender belly when it comes to dog food, so we have to search for certain varieties that will not make her stomach upset. For a while, we had to have two different dog foods; one for Lucia, and a puppy variety for Sherman when he was younger. I am glad that IAMS not only has options for different stages of life (puppy, adult, senior), but also has options for different dietary needs. For example, they have an IAMS® Sensitive Naturals™Adult Ocean Fish + Rice Recipe of dog food that Lucia can enjoy. She happens to be sensitive to chicken products, and it can be a challenge to find the right formula that makes her happy. We always opt for dry dog food since the abrasive chewing action is good for our pups’ oral hygiene (have to keep those chompers sparkly and clean!). Of course, also getting your hands on treats, a crate, collars, leashes, etc. is always an undertaking, so it is nice when you can acquire all of these things in one place! And that place happens to be Target. Talk about one of my all time favorite stores! I can get lost for hours inside of Target…from clothing, to home goods, to beauty products, to food, to pet supplies, I really can find it all in one place. The fact that I don’t have to jump from one store to another is a complete life and time saver for me.

It just so happened that Lucia was in need of a new collar, and I was SO excited to pick up a new one for her – a turquoise glitter collar?!?! Yes, please! I also couldn’t resist grabbing a new rope pull toy for my two fur babies – they love a rope toy, and Target offers affordable and plentiful options in their pet toy section!
