Desserts in Jars at Datz Dough…plus a giveaway!

I think it’s safe to say I consumed my entire sugar/sweets intake for the week on Monday evening. I’m ok with it though.

On Monday, I was fortunate enough to attend an event at Datz Dough in Tampa – featuring both the book Desserts in Jars AND a selection of the sweets from the book itself! If you recall, I have been inspired by the book in the past with my triple berry crisps in a jar…but it was time for me to taste recipes from the pages of the cookbook!

From now through the beginning of September, Datz and Datz Dough will be offering a selection of the treats from the Desserts in Jars cookbook on their menu. What a great concept, right? How often do you eat something amazing at a restaurant and think to yourself, “I wish I knew how to make that at home?” Well, if you happen to enjoy one of these adorable desserts in a jar and want to make them yourself, you can simply pick up a copy of the book (on sale at the restaurants) on your way out.

We sampled a selection of five different desserts from the cookbook on Monday evening, and I have to say it is hard to pick out a favorite. Actually, it was hard to even consider destroying the beautiful display of jarred treats – they looked pretty fantastic stacked on top of tiered cake plates and candles. We all managed to dig in though…to a chocolate peanut butter cup cupcake (oh, the richness! If you can finish one of these by yourself, let me know. It is a feat for only the most devoted chocoholics), a caramel creme cheesecake (which seemed to be a crowd favorite), pull apart cinnamon bread (breakfast goodness for dessert: I’m in!), cherry almond crumble (perfect blend of tart and sweet), and lemon meringue pie with thyme shortbread crust (the hint of herb really brought another dimension to the flavor of this one).

The desserts in jars are such a great hand held sweet treat to end the evening: whether you go in to Datz or Datz Dough to enjoy one or create one at home, they are certainly crowd pleasers.
