Beauty buys worth the splurge

Most of the time, the clothing and beauty products I share are of the affordable variety. I do believe that you don’t have to break the bank when it comes to style and beauty.

HOWEVER, there are some times when I think a girl has to splurge. When I splurge on a beauty product, I don’t take it lightly. Over the past six months, I have started using a few new makeup products that I now fully believe are 100% worth each and every penny. Sometimes, the splurge is totally worth it. Let me tell you what they are and why I love them (and why you need to get your hands on these products ASAP):

Dior ‘Rosy Glow – Petal’ Awakening Blush: $44 at Nordstrom. I realize that price tag seems pretty high for blush. It is. I cringed a little when I handed over my credit card. However, this blush is the best I’ve ever used. The shade is supposed to be universally flattering for all faces because of the technology involved. You see, the shade of the blush adjusts according to your skin’s moisture! It is the PERFECT rosy glow for your face. What is great is that this blush glides effortlessly onto my blush brush – I don’t need to drag it around many times to pick up the product. This blush is really going to last a long time, so in my opinion, it is SO worth the splurge.

Urban Decay Pore Perfecting Primer: $31 at Sephora. I received a small sample bottle of this when I made a purchase at Sephora, and once I used it a few times I was hooked and splurged on the full size tube. This primer reduces the appearance of pores and fine lines. Another feature that I love is that the primer applies to a matte finish on your face. It is not greasy whatsoever. If you have oily or combination skin, this could be the perfect primer for you (although if you have dry skin I am sure it would be fabulous as well). Urban Decay also offers a Brightening and Tightening Complexion Primer if that is more up your alley. I’ve been using my full size tube of primer since September, and at this point I am MAYBE halfway through. Worth the splurge, 100%.

Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray: $29 at Sephora. This stuff is SO COOL! It is a hypoallergenic makeup setting spray in a mist bottle. I’m sure some of you out there can relate: after a few hours of wearing makeup, sometimes you can feel it getting less than fresh…a little melted…a little streaky…all that horrible stuff. Not with a few sprays of this makeup setting spray! I mist 2-3 pumps across my face after my makeup is applied in the morning, and it seriously lasts ALL DAY. I even tested this at the beach over the summer: I sat out at the beach in almost 100 degree heat for over an hour and my mom even commented on how fresh my face looked at the end of it (note: I don’t normally wear a face full of makeup to the beach: I just wanted to test out the product in an extreme condition). This is great for everyday wear, and especially great for special occasions when you want to make sure your makeup is long lasting. AND – it is vegan and cruelty-free! You have to love that.

So tell me: what beauty buys do you make that are totally worth the splurge?

  • My mom always says that you should never skimp on stuff you put on your face. I take her advice to heart (especially since she looks about a decade younger than her age). Sure, I use some drugstore brands, but for others, I refuse to compromise!

    • I think your mom is a very smart lady! As I’ve gotten older, I’m definitely starting to transition over to better products. However…one thing that has never impressed me more in the expensive versions? Mascara. I’ve tried $15-$30 tubes…and they still don’t hold a candle to my tried and true L’Oreal Voluminous mascara…for all of $5.99. Go figure! At least I can save in one area…haha!

  • Nars blush is totally worth the splurge – also kind of ridiculous at around $36 (I think…haven’t bought any in a year or more) a pop but so, so, so good. I hear nothing but great things about Dior makeup (Especially the foundations) but I just can’t pull that trigger!

    • I have heard great things about Nars blush too! I was actually between a Nars blush and the Dior one, but Dior won out in this case!

  • Love the UD primer and I’ve heard SUCH great things about the perfecting spray. Waiting for a nice Sephora gift card so I can feel good about splurging!

    • That primer is great, isn’t it? I used to use Smashbox’s primer and I liked it, but I swear Urban Decay’s seems to last longer! Plus, the matte quality really makes me happy.
